About the Artist
Artist Statement
I have been enamored by the pregnant form since I was a child. I see an awe inspiring image when I see a woman carrying her baby within her belly, a magnetic pull. My eyes see the graceful, curvaceous, bold, powerful and mysterious lines of the pregnant form. My hands want to touch her. Prima Bella, the most beautiful, this is how I see a pregnant woman; bursting with life and sensuality, embracing her baby within her with her loving arms of protection and pride. This to me is a special kind of beauty, a mother’s poetry.
Throughout history, artists have offered the healing balm of their work to society. My work is to rejoice with the round bellied ones for they are the most courageous, our fountains of life to be celebrated, honored, and respected. Nineteen years ago I conceived and carried my son within my own body. It was a profound experience. The art of the bellycast and bellymask has been my personal labor of love throughout my son’s entire life. Now he is going off to college in the fall.
Love…Hope…Wonder…Joy…Anticipation…Tenderness…Protection Wistful and sentimental are my memories of long ago, my pregnancy, my beautiful and fecund body. I am so grateful to have my lovely bellymasks keeping the memories of pregnancy vivid. They fill me and my son with pride and give me the opportunity to re-visit the most precious feelings ever, forever.
